17 September 2023 The Eskdale Cave Waterfall is one of the most unique in the Lake District. It hides in plain sight, very close to the ever popular Tongue Pot, yet remains something of an unknown. The waterfall cascades into a deep luminous green pool where rainbows often form in the spray.

We reach Lingcove Bridge and things start to feel different as we climb deeper into the mountains, having to tread more carefully as we pick our way up alongside even more spectacular falls until eventually reaching a much flatter section of the river valley that feels almost out of place this high up with large sweeping river bends and boggy river banks (see below).

The biggest of the falls above Lingcove Bridge.

Great little spot with many wild camp opportunities around. Great pools for those who like to swim and nice little waterfalls.

A fabulous walking experience to be had here at the confluence of the Esk and Lingcove Beck where the tough walking starts. There are many waterfalls and swimmable pools here in this rugged terrain (not in winter). Turn left here for Scafell, Englands tallest mountain. About an hours walk off the road after negotiating Hard Knott Pass.

To the right of the bridge is another beautiful waterfall, with a much taller cascade - Lingcove Beck Falls. It's a real beauty, but the pool is only very small, so for proper swimming you want to continue heading up the valley. Although if you have time and don't mind a very minor scramble, you can visit the secret cave falls before you go.
